Veterans Initiative PowerPoint Template (PowerPoint and PDF)—This Corporation-produced presentation can be used to educate and inform potential partners and grantees about veteran-focused national service opportunities. Customize it to include data from your own Commission and state.

Washington Veterans Corps Materials (Wepbpage)

  • Copy of e-mail from Washington State Director of Veterans Affairs (PDF)—John Lee, director of the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA), sent this e-mail to his peers in the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs network praising his department’s collaboration with the Washington Commission for National and Community Service on the Washington Veterans Corps. It may provide an opportunity for you to follow up with the director or staff of your own state’s veterans affairs office.

    A letter from John Lee of the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs regarding the Veterans Corps.
  • Service to Country, Service to Community Presentation (PDF)—Staff of the Washington Commission for National and Community Service delivered this presentation at the 2009 National Conference on Volunteering and Service in San Francisco. In addition to detailing veteran-focused programs in Washington State, it provides ideas for engaging veterans in national service and information about the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, which recognizes servicemen and women volunteering in their communities.
  • Sample press release (PDF)—This joint press release from the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs and the Washington Commission for National and Community Service announced the AmeriCorps grant that funded the Washington Veterans Corps. Adapt it to announce similar partnerships your Commission may create to serve veterans in your state.

  • Sample Public Service Announcements (YouTube): Prepared by the Corporation, these PSAs highlight the work of two veterans serving as AmeriCorps members in Washington State. They profile, respectively, Timm Lovittand Gary Gray.

  • Guide for Veterans Attending College (PDF). Prepared by the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs to inform veterans enrolling in college about the resources available to them.
