2017 AmeriCorps Tribal Competition Awards
The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) has a long history of supporting Indian tribes and organizations around the country to address local needs. This year, CNCS awarded 20 AmeriCorps grants to Tribal governments, totaling more than $3.4 million in AmeriCorps funding to support 233 new AmeriCorps members.
The grants awarded will address a range of challenges, including tutoring and mentoring Native American youth, preserving language and cultural heritage, conservation efforts, repairing housing for veterans, connected veterans and military families to resources, preparing for disasters, tackling substance abuse issues, and more.
AmeriCorps members supported by these grants are eligible to earn more than $1 million in Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards to help pay for college or pay back student loans.
