James Hunter

James Hunter served as a Private Second Class in the United States Army from 1976-1977. When he returned to civilian life, he struggled to adjust and fell into drug and alcohol addiction. After finding himself homeless, he sought help and turned his life around. Today, James serves as a volunteer in Senior Corps’ Foster Grandparent Program, mentoring and tutoring 2nd grade students from an under-resourced community in Kansas City, MO. He especially enjoys mentoring young men, helping them to reach their highest potential, both in school and in life. James' service has rendered him a role model for the youngest members of his community, allowing him to affect change well beyond his immediate surroundings.
