Brenda Padilla spent Thursday repairing water bars along the Dixon Cave Trail near the historic entrance of Mammoth Cave. Padilla, who is from central California, is a team leader for the National Civilian Community Corps, a 10-month AmeriCorps program for young adults ranging in age from 18 to 24. Those involved with the program travel around the country doing team-based community service projects. She along with seven others are spending a month working at Mammoth Cave National Park doing mostly trail maintenance that sometimes involves pushing wheelbarrows full of gravel uphill to an area along a trail that is in need of repair. This is the first time Padilla has been to MCNP.
“It’s neat. It’s really cool and interesting,” she said. “Just the history itself is really something else. This is a really neat experience. It’s definitely a culture immersion.”
