Participant passcode: 2917827

2. AmeriCorps State and National Symposium—As you know, the Symposium is the required grantee meeting for leadership staff of CNCS prime grantees in the 2018-2019 AmeriCorps State and National portfolio (i.e., directors of State Service Commissions, multi-state programs, tribal programs, national and tribal planning grantees, and programs operating in a state or territory without a commission). If you are bringing on new staff this month who should attend the Symposium, please be sure to share this information and the link to the event website. You can access all of the event details, including an updated Symposium schedule at this link.

a. Location—The 2018 Symposium will be held at the Hilton Crystal City, 2399 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, VA 22202, on September 12-14. There will also be several pre-conference events on September 11-12 for staff of tribal programs funded by AmeriCorps and new program and fiscal staff at commissions and national programs.

b. Registration Deadline August 24—The event website is open, and please be sure to register by August 24. You can find an updated Symposium Agenda-at-a-Glance, logistical details, hotel information, and more for the Symposium at this link. There is no registration fee to attend the Symposium; all grantees are responsible for their own travel, lodging, meals, etc. Please note that the Symposium event site also includes travel information and links to last year’s Symposium materials.

c. Symposium Orientation—To help orient new grantees and help first-time Symposium attendees make the most of the Symposium, we will hold an optional Symposium briefing call for grantee staff before the event. Please mark your calendars for Monday, August 27, 3:00-4:00 pm Eastern; please register for the Symposium orientation at this link. We will send out a reminder for the orientation as we get closer to the date, and the session will be recorded in case you are not available on August 27. The recording will be available and posted on the AmeriCorps Knowledge Network the week before the Symposium.

d. Lodging Deadline August 29—CNCS has reserved a block of hotel rooms to support the Symposium at the event group rate. Please reserve your room as early as possible; in the some prior years, our room block has filled up before the cut-off date. You can access the lodging information here.

e. Optional Monument Tour—AmeriCorps State and National Program Officer, Joe Follman, is a Tour Guide with the National Park Service. Joe will share his love of DC and offer optional, informal walking tours of key monuments at the west end of the National Mall during the Symposium. No registration is required; to participate, meet at the bottom of the stairs in front of the Lincoln Memorial at one of the times below. Please note, this will be a walking tour; please wear very comfortable shoes and clothing. And this is a great opportunity to sport some AmeriCorps gear and promote the A! Here are the two options for touring with Joe:

i. Tuesday, September 11, 3:00 PM-5:00 PM, or
ii. Wednesday, September 12, 7:30 PM-9:30 PM

3. Next Webinar for AmeriCorps Staff—The next AmeriCorps State and National training webinar will occur on Thursday, August 9, 3:00-4:30 pm Eastern, and the session will focus on orienting and training AmeriCorps members. This webinar will be useful for all commission and program staff who are responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating AmeriCorps member orientation and training programs. This webinar will be recorded and posted on the Knowledge Network later this month.

Here are the participation details for the next webinar:

Title: AmeriCorps Member and Orientation (to be presented by AmeriCorps State and National staff)
Date: 8/9/18
Time: 3:00-4:30 pm Eastern

What are the purposes of the webinar? This webinar is one in a series of optional, online trainings provided to commission and program staff each year. The webinars are designed to help build organizational capacity and provide strong AmeriCorps service experiences. The content of the webinars ranges from broad organizational issues, like continuity planning, to more specific technical topics, like completing the GPR or conducting criminal history checks. CNCS provides these sessions so commissions and directs can connect with a variety of agency staff and learn from their colleagues as guest speakers; guests are included in approximately 50% of the webinars. The webinar content is recorded and stored on the Knowledge Network, on the CNCS website, or in Litmos.

4. Financial Grants Management Webinar Now Posted—The recording for the Financial Grants Management webinar held on July 26, transcript, session highlights, and PowerPoint are now posted on the AmeriCorps Knowledge Network.
