FY17 Formula Funds and VGF

FY17 Formula Funds
It has come to our attention that there are questions about the overall formula number being less than last year despite the AmeriCorps State and National line item being level funded. The FY17 formula allocations CNCS provided are correct.

There were two changes this year that result in a slightly smaller amount being available for formula funding. The first change is related to training and technical assistance funding. Last year, the $7.5M for training and technical assistance included both State Commission related investments and non-State Commission expenses including the Volunteering and Civic Life in America research required by the SAA. As you know, the Committee report language in this year’s bill was more specific about providing $7.5 million for training and technical assistance for State Commissions. Thus the non-State Commission expenses are in addition to that amount. The second change is funding to support the Offices of the Chief Risk Officer and Information Technology as allowed by 179(j) in the statute.

FY17 VGF Grants
Once the FY17 VGF Grants are made, AmeriCorps State and National program officers will provide technical assistance, training, and monitoring of the grants. We look forward to continuing our working relationship with you and VGF.
