EXECUTIVE SUMMARY - September 11th Day of Service and Remembrance

Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry, Inc. proposes to have 75-100 volunteers who will rebuild homes in New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender Counties, NC on the September 11th Day of Service 2017. Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry, Inc. proposes to mobilize 75-100 volunteers on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service to rebuild homes for low-income women of color in New Hanover, Pender, and Brunswick Counties. On the September 11th Day of Service 2017, 75-100 volunteers will be responsible for the repair and rebuild of up to five homes that veterans call home whose household income is less than 50% AMI for their area based on HUD standards. This program will focus on the CNCS focus area of Veterans and Military Families: Services and Supports to Military Families by providing safe, affordable housing, and will feature preparation and dissemination of curriculum and materials that educate youth about public service to honor September 11th National Day of Service. For the MLK Day of Service, WARM, African Methodist Episcopal Zion (AMEZ) Housing and our other community partners will be responsible for identifying potential applicants whose household income is less than 50% AMI for their county of residence and making their homes healthy and habitable. This program will honor the life and teachings of Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and live out the CNCS focus area of Economic Opportunity. For September 11th, the CNCS investment of $149,779 will be matched by $40,000 in public funding from the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency and $10,093 in corporate and individual donations. For MLK, the CNCS investment of $51,876 will be matched by $98,294 in public funding (North Carolina Housing Finance Agency) and $30,000 in private funding from corporations and individual donations.
