FY 2017 September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance

Executive Summary

Allegheny County proposes to have minimally 13 (see Program Design section) post-secondary institutions conduct a September 11 Day of Remembrance and Service for their matriculating post-9/11 veterans to HONOR veterans with a day of INFORMATION and RESOURCES for veterans to secure EMPLOYMENT to benefit both the veteran and the region. Allegheny County promotes H-I-R-E Veterans.

During the week of September 11, 2017, at two to three institutions per day, participants will be joined by prospective employers (see Program Design section) and career placement professionals to assist attendees with job search techniques and strategies, and employment opportunities with the goal of securing employment. This program will focus on the CNCS focus areas of:

* access to educational benefits and services

* opportunities for professional certification, licensure, or other credentials

* access to employment benefits and services

* access to internships/fellowships that may lead to employment

For September 11, the CNCS investment of $50,000 will be matched with $20,000 in local public funding.
