Executive Summary

The American Red Cross will have 27 AmeriCorps members who will increase communities' resilience by improving the capacity of communities across Illinois to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters by acting as educators, emergency managers, and community conveners. Members will be serving multiple communities in Illinois with host sites in Chicago, Moline, Springfield, Peoria, Bloomington, Romeoville, Kankakee, Quincy, Rockford, and St. Charles.

Twenty-one AmeriCorps members will be focused on increasing the preparedness of individuals and families in the face of emergencies. Through education, members will increase youth and adult's ability to recognize, prioritize and respond to emergency situations. Six Illinois Disaster Corps members will focus on donation coordination and spontaneous volunteer management in the event of a local or state disaster. Six Illinois Disaster Corps members will increase the State of Illinois and Local Jurisdiction's ability to welcome and engage spontaneous volunteers and coordinate local resources to manage donations. This program will focus on the CNCS focus area of Disaster Services. The CNCS investment of $ 372,482 will be matched with $417,490 in private funding.
