Executive Summary

The YMCA of Rock River Valley proposes to have 28 HT AmeriCorps members who will be addressing educational, leadership and wellness in needs in underserved populations in Rockford, Illinois. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for improving the health and educational habits of at-risk and underserved youth and teens; will help to minimize the achievement gap in school performance between students of various income levels; will provide important college readiness and career exploration activities; develop and further positive community programming between the residents of Rockford, the YMCA of Rock River Valley and the Northwest Community Center; and provide capacity building services to local community organizations to help improve their volunteer recruitment and management systems. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage an additional 30 volunteers who will be engaged in tutoring, mentoring and providing AmeriCorps members with program and logistical support.

This program will focus on the CNCS focus areas of Education, Healthy Futures and Capacity Building. The CNCS investment of $182,459 will be matched with $0 in public funding and $97,748 in private funding.
