Executive Summary

The Atrisco Heritage Foundation, in collaboration with the City of Albuquerque's Running Start for Careers and Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Community School Partnership's Homework Diner, proposes to have 71 AmeriCorps members who will develop and provide a comprehensive program for student success in grades K-12 at up to 82 service sites, utilizing AmeriCorps members as Coaches in an after-school and summer Reading and STEM program in elementary schools (Bernalillo, Valencia, and Santa Fe Counties), to expand an evening Homework Diner for students and families in Albuquerque middle schools, and in Running Start for Careers (RSFC), a career-oriented dual credit program for students in Albuquerque high schools. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for improved outcomes for students, including increased academic performance in reading and math and STEM subjects, improved engagement with school and attendance, industry-validated career experience and mentorship for high school students, and reduced drop-out rates among participants. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage an additional 200 volunteers, who will be engaged in supporting program elements across grade levels at all sites. This program will focus on the CNCS focus area of Education. The CNCS investment of $444,287 will be matched with $43,235 in public funding and $330,850 in private funding.
