FY 2016 AmeriCorps State Commission (New and Continuations)

Executive Summary

Blue Engine proposes to have 96 AmeriCorps members who will partner with classroom teachers to lead in-class, small group instruction and provide one-on-one tutoring outside of the classroom -- with strategic incorporation of social cognitive skill development -- in seven to ten New York City public high schools serving low-income communities. Our AmericCorps program will address the Education Priority Outcome; specifically, at the end of the 2016-17 school year, we estimate that 96 Corp Members will serve 1680 students, of whom 1,428 will complete the school year in a class supported by Corp Members. We estimate that a minimum of 816 students will demonstrate academic gains in Math or Literacy based on participation in the Blue Engine partnership (as demonstrated by a rigorous counterfactual predictive model).

This program will focus on the Corporation focus area of Education (in priority areas of STEM and MBK). In addition, in continuing to commit to cost efficiency while continuously improving educational outcomes for students, Blue Engine respectfully proposes a cost to CNCS per member of $9,900, thereby qualifying us for the Next Gen priority. The Corporation investment of $950,400 will be matched with $2,378,895, of which $1,344,000 will come from local public funding from schools in the form of fee-for-service and $1,034,895 from private funding.
