Executive Summary

The YWCA Central Alabama proposes to have forty full time AmeriCorps members who will serve in a multi-focused consortium with the YWCA and seventeen partnering agencies engaging in service related to homelessness, affordable housing, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures and domestic violence services in Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Blount counties, Alabama. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for meeting a variety of community needs including adding to the capacity of nonprofits and providing housing services for economically disadvantaged individuals. In addition the AmeriCorps members will leverage an additional 3,700 volunteers who will be engaged in 20,000 hours of community service meeting community needs in homelessness, housing, employability, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, and domestic violence services.

This program will focus on the CNCS focus areas of Economic Opportunity, Education, Environmental Stewardship, Healthy Futures and Other Community Priorities. The CNCS investment of $545,200 will be matched with $394,800 in private funding.
