Executive Summary

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Barron County (BGCBC) proposes to have 20 AmeriCorps members who will serve as paraeducators in literacy, STEM subjects, and nutrition education to improve academic engagement of Boys & Girls Club youth and contribute to healthy futures of the children in 5 different Boys & Girls Club Clubhouses located in Barron, Rice Lake, and Cumberland, WI. At the end of the first program year, AmeriCorps members will be responsible for creating and maintaining a Member Afterschool Portfolio Plan (MAPP) for regular attending BGCBC youth. The case management MAPP will be developed in collaboration with input from the child, the child's school teacher(s) and the school district, and the child's parent/guardian. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage an additional 60 volunteers (15 ongoing & 45 episodic) who will be engaged in assisting with Club programming and/or other capacity building projects. This program will focus on the CNCS priority focus areas of Education and Healthy Futures. The CNCS investment of $198,694 will be matched with $83,274 in private and local funding.
