Executive Summary

The American Red Cross proposes to have 235 AmeriCorps members who will be increasing communities' resilience by improving the capacity of communities across the country to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters. Members will be serving multiple communities across the country including our current 21 regions in NY, PA, FL, LA, OK, IL, IA, SD, KY, NM, AZ, NV, and CA but also expanding into other regions as a need is indicated in at-risk locations across the country. At the end of the first program year members will be responsible for an increase in the number of people prepared for a disaster and, people with immediate disaster-caused needs will be met; as clients begin to move through the recovery process. In addition the AmeriCorps members will leverage new and existing volunteers who will support the program in reaching 145,700 individuals with preparedness education and respond to 21,150 disaster affected individuals.

This program will focus on the CNCS Focus Area of Disaster Services, we are asking CNCS to invest $3,156,050 in the Red Cross Corps AmeriCorps Program (formerly National Preparedness and Response Corps) through a Fixed Amount Grant. The Red Cross provides all other necessary funds for a fully successful and impactful program including on-site member supervision, on-site member training, salary and benefit contributions for national program administration staff, HR and IT support for all members.
