FY 2015 September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance Grants

Executive Summary

The American Legion Auxiliary September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance Project will provide funds to up to 25 geographically dispersed grassroots veteran, military, and civilian organizations or collaborations -- and encourage additional unfunded organizations and collaborations -- to engage and support veterans, military servicemembers, and their families in service to honor the sacrifice of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 or who rose in service as a result of that tragedy. The project's service and remembrance sites will deliver activities addressing vital needs of veterans, servicemembers, and their families in areas of employment, housing and community facility improvement, and education, as well as civics education of children and youth. Funded service and remembrance sites will recruit at least 750 veterans, servicemembers, and their family members cumulatively to volunteer with the sites. This project aligns with the CNCS veterans and military families focus area. The CNCS investment of $55,500 will be matched with $18,398 of cash and in-kind resources from the American Legion Auxiliary and other sources.
