Executive Summary

The Allegheny County Department of Human Services, KEYS Service Corps AmeriCorps program proposes to have 136 AmeriCorps members who will tutor, mentor, and implement service projects in Allegheny, Beaver, Washington, and Westmoreland counties. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for:

- improving the completion rate of targeted youth's classwork and/or homework,

- improving academic performance in literacy and/or math,

- improving identified life skills for targeted youth through mentoring, and

- engaging youth in service to their communities.

In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage an additional 650 volunteers who will be engaged in service projects to improve local communities.

This program will focus on CNCS focus areas of Education and My Brother's Keeper. The CNCS investment of $1,129,378 will be matched with $1,129,378 in public and private funding.
