Executive Summary

Alternatives, Inc proposes to have 35 AmeriCorps PASS Members, representing the equivalent of 11.16 MSY, provide mentoring, academic enrichment, and college/career readiness activities to low income academically at risk middle and high school students in Hampton and Newport News, VA. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for increasing the behavioral and academic outcomes of over 1,000 students. In addition, the AmeriCorps Members will leverage an additional 330 volunteers who will be engaged in service learning and episodic volunteerism through planning and participating in community wide service projects.

This program will focus on the CNCS focus area of Education. The CNCS investment of $152,542 will be matched with $92,372; of which $48,372 is local and /or state funds, and $44,000 is private funding
