Executive Summary

11 FT, 10 PT, and 16 QT Corps members will be placed with staff and volunteers providing high quality early childhood development, high yield out of school time programming including peer mentoring, homework help/tutoring, recreation and nutritional activities, family engagement, enrichment and positive youth development activities, free countywide USDA meals, and national day of service projects, and program supports, in all of Sierra County, NM for over 600 economically disadvantaged children and youth aged 6 weeks through 19 years from economically disadvantaged homes during full day/ year round programming. At the end of the 1st program year, the Corps members will be responsible for reduced obesity, increased food security, increased healthy lifestyles, and sustained engagement in regular, organized recreational activities. Young children will be at or above their age level on track to enter school ready to learn. Students will reduce risky behavior, progress to the next grade level on track to graduate from high school on time. In addition; the Corps program will leverage an additional 24 volunteers working alongside Corps members in high quality early childhood, high yield out of school time programming, free county wide USDA meals, and various national day of service projects, and program supports.

This program addresses the CNCS focus areas of education, healthy start and entering school ready to learn. The CNCS investment of $262,656 will be matched with $446,174, $438,103 in local, state and fed funds and $10,267 in non-government private funding.
