Executive Summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee (BGCGM) proposes to have 24 AmeriCorps Members who will support three program areas. AmeriCorps members will serve economically disadvantaged children ages 5-9 years old during the summer at five BGCGM locations, as Kinder Academy and Summer Slide Prevention program facilitators. Additional AmeriCorps members will provide post-secondary readiness for students at seven perpetually low achieving high schools. At the end of the first program year the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for preparing at least 25 "rising kinders" (age five years old) for Kindergarten, inhibiting the effect of summer learning loss for at least 48 seven to nine year olds, and prepare at least 70 high school teenagers for post-secondary education. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage an additional 20 volunteers who will be engaged with community-wide special events and community development activities in each program area. This program will concentrate on the CNCS focus area of Education. The CNCS investment of $82,754 will be matched with $35,527 in private funding.
