Executive Summary

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Barron County (BGCBC) proposes to have 20 AmeriCorps members who will serve as paraeducators in literacy, mathematics, and nutrition education to improve academic engagement of Boys & Girls Club youth and contribute to healthy futures of the children of Barron County. AmeriCorps members will work in three different communities including Barron, Rice Lake, and Cumberland, WI and be assigned to one of five Club sites. Possible placement sites include: Rice Lake Middle School Site, Barron High School Site, Barron Riverview Middle School Site, Lincoln Clubhouse Elementary Site in Rice Lake, and the Cumberland Youth Center. Through the program year, AmeriCorps members will be responsible for creating and maintaining a Member Afterschool Portfolio Plan (MAPP) for regular attending BGCBC youth, with each AmeriCorps member tracking the progress of ten Club members. The case management MAPP will be developed in collaboration with the input of the child, the child's school teacher(s) and school district, and the child's parent/guardian. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage an additional 10 volunteers who will be engaged in assisting with Club programming and/or other capacity building projects.

The BGCBC AmeriCorps MAPP program will focus on the CNCS priority focus areas of Education and Healthy Futures. The CNCS investment of $201,447 will be matched with $103,406 in local/state funding.
