Executive Summary

Program Agency/Name: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County (BBBSOC) is proposing the RSVP for Education in Orange County (RSVP-EOC) program.

Targeted Population: Residents in the CA-04 geographic service area of Orange County, California and all of the cities therein.

Program Summary: The RSVP-EOC program will train Senior Volunteers to support and act as mentors in a school-based mentoring program and how to support a better education for disadvantaged youth or those with special or exceptional needs. Additional Senior Volunteers will be assigned to work with other nonprofit agencies in the area that assist the community with Healthy Futures, Economic Opportunity, Veterans and Military Families, Environmental Stewardship, and Disaster Services. Senior volunteers will also be trained to help selected nonprofits improve their volunteer recruiting and management practices to increase the capacity of those organizations to sustain their programs with volunteers from the community.

Goals and Objectives: The overall goal is to engage 800+ Senior Adult Volunteers in service activities in the targeted communities. Senior Volunteers will serve as school-based mentors in the targeted area to increase the academic engagement of disadvantage youth and youth with special needs. Applicant Capabilities: BBBSOC has sought to address K-12 Success through mentoring programs with the support of qualified program staff and community volunteers since 1958 through and with area local school districts, community based organizations and other volunteer organizations.
