Executive Summary

The Area Agency on Aging, Region One has sponsored the Maricopa RSVP Program for the last twenty years. Our geographic service area is Phoenix, Fountain Hills, Scottsdale, Glendale, Cave Creek, Peoria, Sun Cities, Wickenburg, Buckeye, Avondale, Tolleson, Gila Bend and New River in Maricopa County.

An estimated 320 RSVP volunteers will serve at approximately 40 stations providing critical services to the community, including, but not limited to 1) providing homebound adults, older adults and individuals with disabilities companionship and transportation assistance to medical, grocery and social services; 2) providing support, services, education and referrals to alleviate long term hunger; 3) providing information and assistance on health insurance, benefits and access to care; 4) supporting veterans and family members of active duty military; and 5) providing community-based and classroom mentoring and tutoring to youth.

The primary focus area for this project is Healthy Futures. At the end of the 12 month grant period, 382 people will report increased social ties and support as a result of services provided by RSVP volunteers; 2,500 will have received information on health insurance, benefits, and health care access; and 170 individuals will report increased food security as a result of CNCS supported services. The CNCS federal investment of $95,034 will be supplemented by $69,650 in non-federal resources.
