Executive Summary

Seventeen full and eight minimum-time AmeriCorps Project MORE members will leverage an additional 100 community volunteers. Members will support at least 4,800 economically disadvantaged Head Start parents to gain financial literacy knowledge, parent education and employment readiness that will foster lifelong learning skills and encourage economic self-sufficiency. Members will provide workshops and support GED and ESL classes at UIC FAmily STart Learning Center (FAST) locations and on-site at Head Start centers. At the end of the three-year cycle (09/2013 to 07/2016), 80% of the parents will increase financial, education and employment readiness skills; 70% will achieve adult basic education and language skills. This project will focus on the CNCS Economic Opportunity Area and will complement these services with capacity building. The CNCS investment of $216,827 will be matched with $216,827.
