Executive Summary

Runaway and homeless youth who live on the street are leaving unbearable conditions only to enter into high-risk situations with few resources and support systems. Wisconsin Association for Runaway Services' AmeriCorps members (18 FT; 9 HT) provide street outreach and crisis intervention to these youth. Food, transportation, clothing, educational materials, shelter, and referrals are also provided. Members provide services in 13 communities throughout the state (36 counties), ensuring runaway, homeless, and youth in crisis have a strong support system. At the end of the project (8/31/2014) members will have had 34,450 contacts with youth on the street. youth will access additional program services, with 95% (2,850) of these youth either being reunited with their families or placed in a safe alternative. With ongoing support provided by members, less than 5% of youth will run again, demonstrating the success of the program. In addition, members will leverage 780 volunteers who will provide over 37,700 hours of service. (Start Date 9/1/2013) The CNCS investment of $258,840 will be matched with $295,696 (53%).
