Two new research briefs have been published that illustrate CNCS’s commitment to evaluation of the agency’s initiatives. In 2014, 2015 and 2016 the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) was authorized to use up to 20% of the annual Congressional appropriations of Social Innovation Fund (SIF) funds to test Pay for Success (PFS) approaches. Using this authorization, CNCS reinforced its commitment to support innovative solutions and change how public and private sector investors allocate philanthropic resources and launched its PFS program in June 2014. As one of the first federal government agencies to engage in and support the development of the PFS approach at this scale, CNCS took on a leadership role by documenting experiences and lessons learned about this emerging strategy in order to inform the field. CNCS commissioned a national evaluation of the SIF PFS program in order to assess its implementation and develop resources for the field.
As an Impact Investment:According to a CNCS national assessment research brief published this past month, Pay for Success As an Impact Investment, private-sector capital invested in PFS projects in the U.S. so far has mainly come from socially motivated investors, although more profit-motivated investors could potentially become involved, particularly if government policies are adopted that are supportive of PFS investment.

As we celebrate the holiday season, it is fitting to take a few moments to reflect on the accomplishments and milestones that define the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).
This has been an eventful year, and we have been able to continue serving our nation in meaningful ways. Through it all, we have seen how service opens doors, builds stronger communities, and unites us behind common causes.
This agency supports the cause of service across all age groups, and spans the diversity of challenges and concerns that drive people to take action. We can look up and down our tally of accomplishments and see how much our work matters at the 50,000 locations where our program operate … and to those who give of themselves to help.
Our most-experienced Senior Corps volunteer started our year off with a bang. “Grandma Virginia” McLaurin, a then-106-year-old Foster Grandparent, became a social media sensation after dancing her way through a meeting President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
Grandma Virginia’s many years of service to students in the Washington, D.C., Foster Grandparent program is one of the best case studies we have that service not only adds years to your life, but life to your years. And she inspired her family to serve, as her granddaughter joined the program this fall as a new Foster Grandma!

Team Coding Hope from Tampa, Florida looks like every other rookie FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team. They have a killer robot, they have enthusiasm for engineering, and they have an infectious spirit.
But what makes Team Coding Hope so special is not only where they are going, but where they have come from. Every member of the team has overcome personal family struggles that many of us are lucky not to have faced. With the work of dedicated Metropolitan Ministries staff and support from AmeriCorps VISTA members, these students have thrived and found a love of robotics.
Metropolitan Ministries is a non-profit organization located in Tampa, Florida. Their mission is to care for the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in our community through services that alleviate suffering, promote dignity and instill self-sufficiency… as an expression of the ongoing ministry of Jesus Christ. They serve the everyday needs of the homeless population in the greater Tampa area and those who are at risk to become homeless. Metro Min offers meals, emergency housing, job training and various other services.
