WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) today announced new AmeriCorps resources for New Jersey that will help communities to continue recovery and rebuilding operations after Hurricane Sandy.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Wendy Spencer, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency for volunteering and service, will join Rep. Jon Runyan to announce the agency’s long-term support for Hurricane Sandy affected areas of New Jersey.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, CNCS and its AmeriCorps program joined a nation in responding to the region. More than 1,000 AmeriCorps members have been deployed to New Jersey, leveraging more than 8 200 volunteers. Together, they’ve mucked and gutted nearly 1,500 homes to date.

AmeriCorps and FEMA Partnership Expands Nation’s Disaster Response Capacity

Sacramento, Calif.– Nearly two hundred young adults from across the nation will be sworn in as members of FEMA Corps at an induction ceremony in Sacramento today, providing a boost to the nation’s ability to assist disaster survivors while expanding career opportunities for young people.

Friday, November 2, 9:30 a.m.:

An additional 112 AmeriCorps members have deployed as part of the CNCS reponse to Hurricane Sandy, bringing the total of national service members on the ground to 877. These members are serving in six states and include the 41 FEMA Corps teams previously deployed. An additional 900 members standby for deployment.
