AmeriCorps VISTA Creating Oasis in Baltimore ‘Food Desert’

As Christina Bodison navigated a demanding course load at Howard University, the former biology major actively searched for ways to be of service to others. First, she mentored high school students during an alternative spring break program in Detroit. Then, she researched HIV, AIDS, and the socioeconomic factors that bar access to health care. All of this compelled Christina to join the AmeriCorps VISTA program and the fight against poverty.

2013 Service Impact Award Winners Revealed

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) recognized seven outstanding programs and participants with the 2013 National Service Impact Awards.

Thank You, AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates

It’s back-to-school time. In the upcoming weeks, children across the country will be asked this quintessential question: “What did you do this summer?”  The answer for nearly 3,000 Baltimore elementary students may surprise you.

With the help of 93 AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates, they practiced reading and writing. More importantly, they had lots of fun in the process!

National Service Agency Announces $200 Million in AmeriCorps Funding

As thousands of service leaders gathered at the National Conference on Volunteering and Service, Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) today announced $200 million in new AmeriCorps funding to put AmeriCorps members on the ground in communities to tackle some the toughest challenges facing our nation.

Healthy Futures

Addresses unmet health needs, including access to health care, increasing physical activity and improving nutrition in youth, and increasing seniors’ ability to remain in their own homes.
