New AmeriCorps Grants for Veterans Corps Strengthen Administration's Joining Forces Initiative Chicago - The Corporation for National and Community Service announced that more than 1,000 new AmeriCorps members will deploy across the United States in 2012 to provide education, employment and other services to veterans and military families, the largest number in the agency's history.

Chicago, Ill. -- The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) is awarding 282 grants to national and local nonprofits that will engage nearly 46,000 new AmeriCorps members in improving lives and strengthening communities from coast to coast.The AmeriCorps grants total $214.6 million and are going to a wide range of national and local organizations, state service commissions, faith-based groups, educational institutions, and Indian Tribes.
