MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) will recognize four corporations for their outstanding contributions to advancing quality mentoring opportunities for our youth. They will receive this recognition through their participation in the Corporate Mentoring Challenge, originally launched by First Lady Michelle Obama. Bank of America, Coastway Community Bank, Luxottica and The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company will be honored during an awards ceremony at the 2014 National Mentoring Summit.

A new national study released today by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and the National Conference on Citizenship (NCoC) shows that millions of Americans make volunteering a priority in their lives. The annual Volunteering and Civic Life in America research shows that volunteering in the U.S. remains stable and strong across generations. This year’s report found that 64.5 million (or one in four) Americans volunteered nearly 7.9 billion hours last year. The estimated value of this volunteer service is nearly $175 billion.

Washington D.C. – Additional AmeriCorps members have deployed to provide disaster relief in the areas of five states that saw significant destruction during the recent storms.An AmeriCorps NCCC team of 12 members began work in West Liberty, KY, after traveling to the area from the campus in Vicksburg, MS over the weekend. Three AmeriCorps VISTAs have opened a Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) in the same city and seven additional VISTAs are supporting a state-run call center in Frankfort, KY on a rotating basis.
