The Corporation is soliciting public feedback on the funding notification through January 15, 2010.

Washington, DC—In response to President Obama's executive Memorandum on Tribal Consultation, the Corporation for National and Community Service held its second conference call with tribal leaders today. Ron Lessard, the agency's Strategic Advisor for Native American Affairs, who led the conference call, sought the input of tribal leaders on the parameters of a comprehensive agency-wide policy on tribal consultation.

The Corporation for National and Community Service hosted a national briefing call on October 15, 2009 to provide an update on the status of the Social Innovation Fund and answer questions from the field. The call was led by the following representatives of CNCS: Nicky Goren, Acting CEO; Bob Grimm, Director of Research and Policy Development and Senior Advisor to the CEO; and Marta Urquilla, Senior Advisor for Social Innovation. It was attended by over 650 representatives of public, private, and nonprofit organizations.

Washington D.C. – Today, the Corporation for National and Community Service announced key changes to the planning grants designed to assist local, regional, and national organizations and Indian Tribes in developing new AmeriCorps programs.Major changes to the planning grant competition include, 1) the competition is now also open to organizations that want to plan AmeriCorps programs in one state, 2) the total funds available increased by $250,000 to $750,000, and 3) the application deadline has been extended to January 26, 2010.

Sacramento, Calif.—Twenty-one AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) team leaders will hit the ground today to provide disaster relief assistance to the tsunami-devastated Territory of American Samoa. The group will be deployed on a three-week assignment to assist the American Red Cross with mass care and their shelter operations.

Washington, DC - A team of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) members arrived in Atlanta, Georgia, to provide emergency assistance to area flood victims and help rebuild the flood-stricken city. The team members will spend the next three weeks removing debris, and cleaning and sanitizing damaged buildings to prevent mold.
