Good Times: Foresters and Camp Ronald McDonald Team Up for a Memorable Summer

Blog Categories:

Foresters in Southern California have been long time supporters of Ronald McDonald House Charities. We have spent countless hours preparing meals and cleaning and refurbishing the houses. In 2008, we looked todeepen further our relationship with the organization by lending our support to Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times®!

Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times® was founded in 1982 by a group of caring individuals who dreamed of a place where children who have had their lives devastated by childhood cancer could recapture what being a child is supposed to be. By the end of 2007, more than 6,000 campers from 10 states and 8 countries have attended Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times®.

The idea was grand and larger than any other project we had taken on with the group. The plan was to host a Work Party Weekend for families to come out to the camp and work by day and play with their families by night. The goal was to have 100 volunteers commit to the project. In June 2009, the dream was realized. During the June 5th weekend more than 100 volunteers workedto improve the lives of hundreds of kids with cancer. Forester members spent 1,350 hours working on projects such as painting cabins, building platforms for Tepee Village, replacing windows, repairing damaged sleeping bags, and staining a nearly mile-long fence. And that was just the beginning. Volunteers ranged in age from 5-to 73-years-old.

When the work was done families were able to enjoy the camp amenities, such as volleyball, fishing, singing camp songs, board games, and roasting marshmallows. While the work was exhausting, the experience for our members was unforgettable. The hope is that the work party weekend will become an annual Foresters event.

Because of the time, talent, and treasure of the Foresters, more than600 children impacted by cancer will have a summer camp experience to remember.
