The Volunteer Generation Fund, a program authorized by the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, is designed to increase the number of people who serve in meaningful roles as volunteers dedicated to addressing important needs in communities across America.
The Fund will support efforts that expand the capacity of volunteer connector organizations to recruit, manage support and retain individuals to serve in high quality volunteer assignments, including those that are aligned with special days of service such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and the 9-11 Day of Service and Remembrance.
The Corporation expects that programs funded will establish outcomes, including the number of both new and retained volunteers managed and supported by these awards, as well as the types and amounts of activities carried out by such volunteers.
Awards will be made to State Commissions for National and Community Service (or approved alternative administrative entities) on a competitive basis. Commissions that receive funding under this Notice may directly carry out the activities supported under the award, or may carry out the activity by making sub grants to community-based entities.
