Area Agency on Aging Region One
RSVP 2013 Competition Appendix A Part 1 Funding Opportunities
The Area Agency on Aging, Region One proposes to develop and operate the East Valley RSVP program serving the geographic area located in Eastern Maricopa County of Arizona including Chandler, Gilbert, Guadalupe, Mesa, Queen Creek, Sun Lakes and Tempe, the rural counties of Pinal and Gila and 5 American Indian Tribal Communities. This proposal unites 3 of Arizona's 8 area agencies on aging in developing the capacity to bring service activities related to the Healthy Futures focus area to volunteers and clients in a large and changing geographic area.
An estimated 356 RSVP volunteers will serve. These volunteers will provide independent living supports, health education, respite, food security, and elder abuse prevention through the use of home and community based services. A network of 14 new stations, including 3 area agencies on aging, will begin the transformation of volunteer opportunities available to residents 55 and older throughout a heterogeneous 3 county area. These stations will include the diverse programs within the Area Agency on Aging, Region One, Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens, and Intertribal Council of Arizona; as well as the community stations of Neighbors Who Care, About Care, Chandler Christian Community Center, Arbor Rose Senior Care Living Community, and the Gilbert Boys and Girls Club. At least 50% of the stations under the incumbent grant will be graduated into the proposed project's Healthy Futures focus; the remainder will be assessed for impact on community needs and graduated either into the communities or to build capacity for the East Valley RSVP project.
At the end of the three-year grant, 1740 individuals will have received service from RSVP volunteers. The CNCS federal investment of $124,902 will be supplemented by $25,288 in non-federal resources.
