Calhoun County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is sponsored by the City of Jacksonville, Alabama. The RSVP office staff consists of a Director, grants coordinator/bookkeeper, and volunteer coordinator. The RSVP Advisory Council currently includes 14 members. New members are nominated by the serving council members and approved by the mayor and city council. They can serve 2 consecutive 3 year terms.
The mission of RSVP is to encourage Calhoun County residents age 55 and older to use their time, talents, and experience to improve their community's critical needs. A primary part of our goal is to educate our community on the valuable services that our RSVP provides in our community. Volunteers whose skills and/or experience meet the requirements for the service are matched with the job in these service areas-Tutoring-Public Schools, Food Delivery, Companionship, Computer Classes, Assisting VITA, Disaster Prepredness, Plant Establishment, and others as called for.
Currently we have 321 volunteers that serve in 31 non-profit agencies. Anticipated outcome is that any time a non-profit agency calls and asks for volunteers, RSVP can meet their need with devoted volunteers that have the qualifications that fit the request.
Calhoun County RSVP is asking for a grant of $46,211 for the year beginning April 1, 2013 and ending March 31, 2014, which will be supplemented by $91,759 non-federal resources.
