COCAA Central Oklahoma Community Action
Central Oklahoma Community Actions Agency (COCAA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has been helping low-income individuals and families overcome poverty and lead more stable, self sufficient lives since 1968. Our mission statement modeled on the National Community Action Partnership mission is Helping People, Changing Lives, and Building Communities. COCAA provides services in six counties in Central Oklahoma: Cleveland, Lincoln, Logan, Payne, Pottawatomie and Seminole.
COCAA is the sponsor agency for the proposed project, RSVP of Pottawatomie County. RSVP serves Pottawatomie County and has 200 volunteers that provide approximately 40,000 hours each year. COCAA is the sponsor of this project and is requesting $26,242.
In accordance with the new performance measures, RSVP activities fit into four of the six focus areas: Healthy Futures, Economic Opportunity, Education, and Disaster Services. Some of the volunteer activities fit into the Other Community Priorities section. The following RSVP programs are just some of the activities where RSVP volunteers devote their time and talents. Friend of a Senior program provides companionships/outreach services during the holidays. Shoes That Fit will provide new shoes to children pre-K thru 5th grade to increase the children's self-esteem. A hospice group along with volunteers will provide palliative care to patients with terminal illnesses and their families. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance will partner with the IRS to provide free tax returns at no charge to low-income families. Senior Center Programs will provide volunteers to serve regular socialization and cognitive stimulation at Senior Centers and nutrition sites. Meals on Wheels provide nutritious meals to seniors to help sustain their health and positive attitude. Documentation of this project's anticipated outcomes have excelled in numbers during the past six years.
