50 full time AmeriCorps members will support the academic achievement, post-secondary planning, and social/emotional development of children and youth attending three Philadelphia schools with School Improvement Grants, two Camden schools (one with a SIG and one a Priority Schools), and four Priority Schools in Trenton. Corpsmembers will directly engage families in supporting their children; work with students and school staff to reduce truancy and tardiness and increase school safety; tutor students in mathematics, science, and English/Language Arts; use early warning indicators to target students, especially 9th graders; help students and their families with college selection, application, and financial aid; and support schools' extended day programs. We expect students will make more academic progress, attend school more often, be better behaved, get promoted and graduate more frequently, and go to an appropriate college more often than would have been predicted of them. Members will serve during the school year and summer. The CNCS investment of $633,997 will be matched with $855,965.
