School Turnaround AmeriCorps State Competitive Direct FY 2013
Schenectady County Community College (SCCC), will recruit new 40 Half- Time AmeriCorps members to deliver quality tutoring instruction using an evidence-based model to students of the impoverished, urban Schenectady City School District. SCCC AmeriCorps Members will tutor 9th -- 12th graders in Schenectady High School, a Persistently Low Achieving School currently implementing the SIG Turnaround Model, and support the Schenectady Smart Scholars Early College High School. At the end of the two-year period, the tutored students will show achievement improvements in reading and math skills, as well as increased graduation rates. This project will address the CNCS focus area of Education. The CNCS investment of $195,504 will be matched with $61,796.
