School Turnaround AmeriCorps National Direct FY 2013
Safe Passages (SP), located in Oakland, California (CA) in collaboration with Youth Development, Inc. (YDI), located in Albuquerque, New Mexico (NM) proposes to implement The National Elev8 Youth Program: An AmeriCorps Strategy (National Elev8 Youth Program) across 4 school sites in high need areas in Alameda County, CA and Albuquerque, NM. The National Elev8 Youth Program will provide a trained group of 16 full-time AmeriCorps Members (Members), 4 per school site at four SIG grantee schools, to meet the needs identified by the partnering schools and LEAs to by provide e the following: 1) academic intervention and tutoring to identified high need students; 2) support family engagement activities per school site; and 3) implement CR/RJ activities. at 4 target schools in communities with high concentrations of poverty with low performing schools. All proposed sites are SIG grantees. The total population across the 4 target sites is 2,991. This project will focus on the CNCS focus area of Education. The CNCS investment of $212,800 will be matched with $248,596.
