Providence School Department
School Turnaround AmeriCorps Commission State Competitive FY 2013
Providence Public School District (PPSD) requests $585,200.00 for 34 AmeriCorps members to build and expand a continuum of supports for students at 7 of its lowest performing and under resourced elementary, middle, and high schools. PPSD's AmeriCorps program, called "Providence Continuum of Support" (PCS) is a proven public-private partnership model led by the District. The model encourages and supports cross-sector collaboration at the school level and engages faculty, administrators, partners and parents to make student success their top priority. The program will also launch a initiative to help students transition from elementary to middle and high school, with the goal of reducing risk factors and stressors that lead to school dropout and low performance. PPSD AmeriCorps program will also expand its quality programming and link partners across school levels to allow for greater collaboration and to increase services to maximize impact. With funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), PPSD will ramp-up its AmeriCorps partnership for September 2013.
