Peninsula AmeriCorps Service and Support for Learning
Alternatives, a nationally recognized youth development nonprofit, impacting children on the Virginia Peninsula, will collaborate with Hampton City Schools and Newport News Public Schools, to engage 5.70 MSY as PASS for Learning AmeriCorps Members- representing Half Time, Quarter Time, and Minimum Time positions. Members will annually impact the educational needs of 1,034 elementary children by supporting the school turnaround efforts of Bryan Elementary in Hampton and Sedgefield Elementary in Newport News. Members will support increased learning time by providing educational enrichment and service learning activities in afterschool and summer programs, family engagement activities, and support the acceleration of learning by providing one-on-one or small group homework assistance. This project aligns to the CNCS Education Outcome Measure of increasing academic performance in literacy and math with a CNCS investment is $75,811 and match funding of $30,328.
