AmeriCorps Intervention for Reading Success
50 AmeriCorps Members will be serving 15,858 Bridgeport students who read below grade level. AmeriCorps Members will assist teachers and schools in implementing Scientific Research Based Interventions (SRBI) in reading. We expect that all students will improve reading proficiency by two years in the first year. The CNCS investment is $479,999. The match amount is $159,999. The activity will take place in the Bridgeport Public Schools and surrounding universities. The project begins on August 1, 2013 and ends on September 30, 2014 at which time we will apply for years two and three. This is a good investment for the greater community because it will be a model of exemplary public service for others to follow. It will also create a new path to proficient reading for many underserved children and young people through SRBI.
