Communities In Schools East Aurora High School Partnership
CIS plans to have 20 MSY members to annually provide support services for 300 students and their parents of East Aurora High School, grades 9-12, in Aurora, Illinois. Services will be provided during the day and for afterschool activities. Support services are aligned with the school's SIG objectives and the school's comprehensive school turnaround plan for academic and social/emotional interventions. AmeriCorps members will be responsible for case management that includes mentoring, parent workshops, assistance with college applications, financial aid, career readiness, leadership, and life skills. Outcomes for the grant period, September 1, 2013-August 30, 2014, are for students who receive mentoring to improve academic engagement, complete the program to graduate on time with a diploma, and to enter post-secondary institutions. This project will focus on the CNCS focus area of family and community engagement, increasing college enrollment rates, increasing graduation rates, and establishing a school culture and environment that improve school safety, attendance, and discipline and address other non-academic factors that impact student achievement, such as students' social, emotional, and health needs. The CNCS investment of $265,591 will be matched with $236,594.
