Building Capacity through Extended Learning Programs
During the 2013-14 school year, Cincinnati Public Schools will use 14 half time AmeriCorps Members to serve seven Priority schools within the district. Members will work as Extended Learning Coordinators to support turnaround efforts in Cincinnati's lowest-performing elementary, middle and high schools. Activities will take place at George Hays-Jennie Porter Elementary, James N. Gamble Montessori High School, Rothenberg Preparatory Academy, South Avondale Elementary School, William H. Taft Elementary School, Virtual High School and Woodward Career Technical High School. The project will focus on increasing afterschool learning opportunities through academic tutoring, credit recovery and college/career readiness for some of the district's most at-risk students. Approximately 350 students will be directly served by AmeriCorps Members. The CNCS' investment of $92,959 will be matched with an additional $158,111 in funds.
