Rapides Senior Citizens Centers, INC
RSVP New 2012 Relinquishment Funds Competition
Rapides Senior Citizens' Centers, Inc. (RSCC) serves Rapides Parish and is partnering with Avoyelles Parish Council on Aging. It is proposed that the RSVP program would cover both parishes with RSCC serving as the administrative entity to manage the grant. RSCC's mission is to provide quality senior services to seniors who can participate in a congregate setting and to create an atmosphere that acknowledges the value of human life, dignity and self-worth of older adults.
RSCC is requesting $105, 000 to assist in the delivery of congregate meals and homebound outreach in through reimbursement of volunteers. Through this grant the project will address Services to Homebound Seniors and Access to Food Resources.
The population of adults 60+ (eligible for congregate meals) in our service area is 33,571. Only 29% of those eligible are receiving services available. Through providing travel reimbursements it is our intent to increase the number of volunteers, thereby increasing outreach and awareness and consequently increasing participation numbers.
The community need that will be address through this cooperative endeavor is to decrease the number of homebound seniors in need of contact and to increase the number of seniors that daily use congregate meals service. Research from the National Evaluation of the Elderly Nutrition Program will be used to address this need. The projected outcome is to have a 5% increase the number of congregate meal & homebound participants.
