RSVP New 2012 Relinquishment Funds Competition
The Center for Independent Living in Central Florida, Inc.(CIL) is a recognized and respected Central Florida nonprofit providing a variety of services for people with disabilities, their families and others throughout a seven county area. Starting over 35 years ago as an all-volunteer organization, our mission, in partnership with the community, is to promote personal rights and responsibilities among people with all disabilities and to strive to eliminate architectural, communication and attitudinal barriers by providing education, resources and training to enhance self-determination through informed choice. We propose a project for $105,000 and 300 volunteers to address the focus areas of Healthy Futures, Disaster Services and Economic Opportunity. Addressing at least three community needs: lack of home accessibility, lack of disaster planning and lack of housing services; our project will help develop emergency plans and provide education on preparedness; we will provide housing-related assistance for economically disadvantaged people including homeless individuals and increase independent living with a variety of services to support homebound, older adults and people with disabilities. We will conduct pre-service and post-service surveys. The anticipated outcomes for clients include increased independence and safety and increased readiness for a disaster. Plus, we want our volunteers to feel enriched by the experience by making an important impact in the community.
