The SEARAC AmeriCorps planning grant will be utilized to develop an AmeriCorps program, which will engage AmeriCorps members to provide case management services, and run youth and senior programs. Members will be placed in California, Minnesota, Indiana, Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Members will address the needs families, youths, and seniors from the Cambodian, Lao, and Vietnamese communities and refugee communities from Bhutan and Burma. The program will develop leadership skills of members; strengthen the host sites' programmatic and service capacity; and meeting the needs of the low-income and newly arrived refugees. Program activities will primarily be in the areas of capacity building.
