Executive Summary

This planning grant will be utilized to develop an AmeriCorps program at Single Stop sites across the country. This program will engage AmeriCorps members to help community college students gain access to essential resources to help them improve their immediate financial stability, and help them stay in school and graduate. Specifically, members will provide benefits screening and counseling, case management, and referral services to community college students who are attending Single Stop partner colleges. Members will address the needs of community college students, with an emphasis on veteran students and those who are members of military families, resulting in improved access to public benefits and higher rates of retention and completion. Program activities will primarily be in areas of veterans' services and improving educational outcomes for low-income individuals and families.
