Forty (40) AmeriCorps Members will leverage an additional 1,000 volunteers to provide more than 6,000 homebound, older adults or veteran's older adult family members with a range of services to help them maintain living independently in their own home. There will be a focus on engaging older adults, age 55+ & older adult veteran family members as AmeriCorps members & as volunteers. There will, also, be a special outreach to other underserved populations including low-income, communities of color, rural persons & persons with disabilities. Services will be infused into the existing infrastructure of the naturally occurring aging-in-place "Villages" in 12 states including California (Berkeley/Oakland, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco), Connecticut (East Rock), D.C. (Capitol Hill), Idaho (Moscow), Illinois (Chicago, Evanston, Skokie, Wilmette), Maryland (Chestertown), Massachusetts, (Andovers, Boston, Newton), Minnesota (Minneapolis), Pennsylvania (Philadelphia), Tennessee(Knoxsville), Texas (Austin) Virginia (Alexandria, Mount Vernon). At the end of 3 years, more than 18,000 older adults will have received services with more than 4,800 reporting increased social connections. This project will focus on 2 CNCS focus areas: Healthy Futures & Veterans & Military Families. The CNCS investment of $ 265,970 will be matched with $ 142,826 or 35% of grantee resources.
