Joe Foss Institute
AmeriCorps National Planning Grant FY 2012
The Joe Foss Institute (JFI) was created to work with youth in schools and youth groups across America--with those who will volunteer and serve in our communities in the future--encouraging and teaching public service, democracy, patriotism, and integrity, nationwide. This planning grant will be utilized to develop a national veteran volunteer recruiting and training AmeriCorps program which will engage AmeriCorps members to recruit veteran volunteers for the Joe Foss Institute's Veterans Inspiring Patriotism program and Boy Scout Merit Badge program nationwide. Our veteran volunteers provide these programs at no cost to the schools or scout troops. Training of the veteran volunteers for these programs is provided by the institute at no cost to the veterans. The outcome of these capacity building activities will enable the Joe Foss Institute to more than double our number of veteran volunteers while also doubling the number of students and Boy Scouts our programs are presented to each year. Impact will be measured by the number of veteran volunteers recruited and the number of students and Boy Scouts reached through our programs.
